Telltales presents: Ross Sutherland, Poetry vs Pacman
Cornish writing group Telltales is inviting creative types from throughout the county to join word wizard, gaming enthusiast and creative genius Ross Sutherland at The Rum Bar in Falmouth on Thursday 9th June, for an event with a most intriguing title.
Poetry Vs. Pacman: What Game Design Can Teach Us About Creativity, will be a unique event sure to inspire Cornwall's creative professionals to open their minds to new ways of thinking, which could inform their working practice.
Ross, who was named one of The Times’ Top Ten Literary Stars of 2008, tells the story of how an accidental encounter with Pacman ended up completely changing his understanding of the creative process. Since then, he has written two books and three live shows, all written using strategies borrowed from game design. Ross will talk about the importance of play within creativity, and how different modes of play can yield different results.
The event, which is supported by Cornwall Design Forum (CDF), will be a fantastic opportunity for anyone studying or working in the creative industries to question creativity and how it works.
Clare Howdle, co-founder of Telltales commented:
“Ross is a well respected performer and we wanted to offer the wider creative community of Cornwall an opportunity to tap into his unique take on creativity. Telltales has its roots in the creative writing community and this is a chance for us to reach out to other creative individuals. We are hoping, with support from CDF, that the event will be attended by designers, writers, artists and students looking for a new outlook on creativity.”
Ross will host an informal 30 minute talk followed by a 30 minute Q&A session which will be sure to fire up imaginations in a different way and will leave the audience feeling inspired.
Tickets cost £3 on the door and more information can be found at www.wordslikepictures.com/telltales or on the Telltales Facebook page.
